Merseyside’s sporting champions to be honoured with Rio-style celebration

The cream of Merseyside’s sporting talent, including several of Merseyside’s Paralympians, will be in attendance this Friday for the Merseyside Sporting Champions Awards Dinner 2016.

This year’s event is inspired by the summer of sport in Rio and will feature Paralympic table tennis player Jack Hunter-Spivey as guest speaker; an Audience Question & Answer session with Merseyside Paralympians Jamie Burdekin, Sean Highdale and Lora Fachie (née Turnham), plus husband Neil Fachie; as well as entertainment from samba dancers, Viva Brasil.

The evening will celebrate the county’s sporting talent, plus the people who make sport and physical activity happen here on Merseyside. This year’s event will also be an opportunity for the Merseyside athletes who competed in Rio 2016 to be honoured on home turf. As ever, proceeds from the Dinner go towards bursaries for the county’s future sporting stars.

Nominees and guests from across Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St.Helens, Wirral and beyond will be in attendance to hear the winner of the ten categories* announced. This year’s categories include Community Sports Project of the Year, sponsored by WEALTH at work; Primary and Secondary School of the Year, sponsored by Sonex; Young Sports Person of the Year, sponsored by LJMU Sports Scholarship Scheme; and Young Volunteer of the Year, sponsored by Sport Liverpool.
