TWO friends from Southport are hoping to welcome in the New Year with a bang as they prepare for a huge charity fundraising event.
The duo will be holding a New Year’s Eve party in order to raisie money for two causes that are close to their hearts, The British Heart Foundation (BHF) and a new Portable Liver Scanner through The Rotary Club.
Shona McDermott decided to support her Dad’s Rotary Club and raise funds for a new Liver Scanner after her father sadly passed away, while friend and fellow fundraiser Hayley Kilroy is raising money for BHF following her Dad’s by-pass operation 20 years ago.
Both, Hayley and Shona have been involved in fundraising for many years and last year raised over £3,000 at a Masquerade Ball and £700 at a Race night.
Hayley said: “When my dad became ill it was a really scary and stressful time for our family. The treatment and care was amazing and thanks to the research of the BHF my dad is now fit and well. I was delighted when Shona said she would like to do a joint event again to raise money for the Scanner through Rotary and in her Dad’s memory.
“We are both really looking forward to the night and hopefully raising a good total for our charities”.
“The event will be held at Birkdale Conservative Club, Liverpool Road, Birkdale and will be a 1920’s themed evening. Tickets are £20 and available on 01704 569952.
“The evening will be a celebration with good food, live singers and DJ, photo booth, raffle and fireworks at midnight.”
