Sefton LSCB’s new training course ‘Working with Young People’s Substance Use’  will take place on 25th May 2017 between 9am-4pm at Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre (CLAC) in Waterloo.

This course will explore a number of issues and responses relating to young people and substance use

Aims of the training:
• To inform staff of their responsibilities in responding to substance use
• To facilitate a more comprehensive awareness in partner agencies of young people’s drug and alcohol use
• To enable partner agencies to have more confidence in identifying and working with young people who use drugs and alcohol at the appropriate level
Objectives:
• Identify the reasons why young people choose to use substances
• Introduce some of the theoretical models that can be used when working with Young People
• Understand the risk factors for problematic substance use
• Feel confident having a conversation with a young person that is focused around their drug/alcohol use with specific aim of reducing harm
• Learn effective techniques to work with young people around substance use
• For partner agencies to have a better understanding of how to use some models for lower level interventions in their own practice
• To enable delegates to have a greater understanding of the links between individual experiences, environment and drug and alcohol use
• To encourage more appropriate multi-agency working and understand the referral route to SMASH services
