MEMBERS of the West Lancashire and Southport Breathe Easy group were given the opportunity to ‘stretch’ their lungs when they played host to three members of the Power of Music group.
Singing is a useful and helpful activity for patients with respiratory problems by exercising the muscles of the chest and expanding the lungs, as well as boosting emotional well-being.
After enjoying a full hour of singing with gusto, the hosts expressed their thanks to the Power of Music trio, Ken Holt, Jacquie Sutton and Nicola Sutton, who all live in the South West Lancashire area.
The three also told members about their Songbirds Community Choirs, which meet each Tuesday evening at Ormskirk’s Brookside from 6.30 to 8pm and at All Saints Church, Hesketh Bank on Friday morning from 10.30am to noon. New members are always welcome at both.
Later on the same day, the Power of Music group also appeared at a big event at Ormskirk Fiveways organised by the British Lung foundation, at which the speakers included Dr. S. Youzguin, a respiratory consultant at both Southport and Ormskirk hospitals.
More than 100 invited guests, respiratory patients from local GP surgeries, were able to learn more about the local NHS and charity services available to them, including theBritish Lung Foundation and local Breathe Easy Groups.
A public meeting of the West Lancashire and Southport Breathe Easy Group also took place on Monday (April 24) at the Girl Guide HQ in Green Lane, Ormskirk when the speaker was specialist occupational therapist, Sally Sharrock.
