The date for the next big sporting occasion has been set and the region’s sporting stars and unsung heroes will be celebrated once more.
Sefton Council is proud to host the Sefton Sports Awards 2017 which will once again held at the Southport Theatre and Convention Centre on Wednesday, July 12.
The annual awards ceremony recognises and rewards the outstanding talent, dedication and commitment of local athletes, coaches, volunteers, clubs and schools supporting grassroots sport across the borough over the last 12 months.
Organised by Active Sefton, which is part of Sefton Council’s Health and Wellbeing portfolio, this year welcomes guest of honour, Paralympian Lora Fachie MBE.
Born with a hereditary sight condition, para-cyclist Lora lost her sight at the age of 5. Lora won Paralympic gold with Corrine Hall at Rio 2016, and is also a two-time world champion on the road. Add to that a silver and bronze medal in the pursuit at the Track World Championships.
Tina Pilkington, Development Manager at Sefton Council, said:
“We’re so pleased to welcome Lora as our guest speaker to. I’ve no doubt that this brilliant athlete and role model will inspire the youngsters at the event.
“The awards night is always a wonderful celebration and we’re certain this will once again be a night to remember.
