A LIBRARY group from Southport say they have come up with a way of paying permanent tribute to legendary Southport actress Jean Alexander.
The Liverpool born star, who died in October last year, was a patron of the North Meols Library Association and now bosses at the NMLA want to dedicate a specialist ‘reading space’ to the Coronation Street actress.
They have said they will incorporate the space in their proposals for the Botanic Garden based ‘Library In the Gardens’ scheme.
A spokesperson for the NMLA said: “Our project for The Library in the Gardens is progressing well despite our failure to secure a lottery grant, everything is close to being in place but is dependant upon us raising the funding.
“We are working on Plan B which involves inviting tenders for the works to bring the pavilion up to current standards.
“Our plans for the building includes a central library space along with two meeting rooms on either side, one of which we intend to name ‘The Jean Alexander Meeting Room’.
“We have an architects Illustration of how this might look.
“Following the recent auction of Jean Alexander’s effects we have managed to secure a small number of personal items, pictures and bric a brac in the main, which we intend to display in a small and discreet manner in the room.
“They are of no intrinsic value other than having belonged to Miss Alexander our much missed patron whose memory we wish to commemorate in the modest and unassuming way she lived her life, here in Churchtown
“If anyone is able to offer their support, either practical or financial, to help make our project a reality please get in touch with NMLA secretary Elaine on firstname.lastname@example.org or call 07721 451158 or look at our wesite for more information http://www.thelibraryinthegardens.weebly.com”
