Buddy Up calls out for votes to bag a share of Tesco Fund!

Buddy Up, a project works with young people aged between 13 and 18 who have learning disabilities is hoping to raise up to £4000 from the Tesco Bags of Help Scheme.

Buddy Up seeks to provide opportunities for young people with and without additional needs to work together as peers, the relationships they form will ‘normalise’ the social experiences of the young people with additional needs, leading to increased social participation, individual self confidence and self-esteem.

Buddy Up aims to support young people to be better equipped for adulthood and to increase their independence, confidence and to expand their range of relationships. Working with schools, community youth groups and VCF sector youth providers to identify, recruit, support and train peer mentors who have an ability and dedication to volunteering within their community. This project will also support young people working towards their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the projects’ internal volunteer recognition scheme.

We need to expand the activities we can offer and the funding from Tesco will provide young people with the opportunity to attend singing workshops facilitated by Crescendo: Empowering People through Singing.

In November 2017 we organised a one off Singing Taster Session with Crescendo and we were surprised by how much the young people engaged in the session and really enjoyed it. It was so good we decided we need to do more.

These sessions will reduce social isolation, increase confidence and help the young people to build new skills. It will also be lots of fun!!!

The Tesco scheme  is run through their stores and customers can cast their vote using a token given to them at the check-out in store each time they shop. Three groups in every area have been shortlisted to receive the cash award based on the number of tokens each group receives .

  • Tesco Express Crosby Road
  • Tesco Express Coronation Road
