Tesco Bags of Help COVID-19 Communities Fund

Tesco Bags of Help is responding to the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis by setting up a new short-term fund to support local communities. Due to the need to respond quickly to the emergency we have created a streamlined application process and payment process to make it easier to get funds distributed quickly.

If your application is successful the fund will provide a single payment award of £500 to organisations who are supporting vulnerable groups. The programme is set up to support organisational need in this time of crisis rather than fund specific projects.

National Lottery Heritage COVID-19 Emergency Fund Announced

National Lottery Heritage Fund is making £50million available for a Heritage Emergency Fund to support the UK heritage sector as an immediate response to the COVID-19 crisis.

They will be investing the £50m where it is needed most, by providing short-term funding for organisations delivering heritage projects or running previously funded projects, and safeguarding heritage sites they have previously invested in to ensure they are not lost to the public.

BBC Radio Merseyside – Make a Difference Campaign

Throughout the Coronavirus Pandemic, all 39 BBC Local Radio Stations will be taking part in the ‘Make A Difference’ campaign and if you’re making a difference in your community BBC Radio Merseyside want to hear from you!

LCRCares COVID-19 Community Support Fund

LCR Cares Fund Banner

LCRCares is a new crowdfunding campaign to raise £1million to support community and voluntary organisations on the frontline of helping the city region’s communities cope with the impact of Coronavirus. Local people are volunteering their help in so many ways. They are our community heroes and they urgently need our support.

The money raised will be distributed to local organisations who are providing essential support to communities such as:

  • Foodbanks
  • Food/care package delivery to vulnerable people self-isolating
  • Delivery of services and projects supporting the most vulnerable, such older people e.g. a telephone support/friendship service or delivering online activities to help reduce isolation
  • Emotional and mental health support
  • Financial Inclusion, support to access benefits and debt advice

The fund is being managed by the Community Foundation for Merseyside, a registered charity that has distributed in excess of £40m to grass root community groups and charities across the Liverpool City Region and a long held reputation for ensuring funding is provided to the most vulnerable.

Please give whatever you can to #LCRCares to help those most vulnerable in the Liverpool City Region as a result of the impact of the Coronavirus outbreak.

CAF CORONAVIRUS EMERGENCY FUND

About this Fund

In this time of national crisis, CAF has launched this rapid response Fund to help smaller charitable organisations affected by the impact of Covid-19. Grants of up to £10,000 will help them to continue to deliver much needed support to our communities across the UK.

This is intended as a rapid response fund, and they aim to make payments to selected organisations within 14 days of application.

They anticipate high numbers of applicants and unfortunately it is likely that we will not be able to offer a grant to all eligible applicants.

Who can apply?

Organisations with a charitable purpose and charitable activities, which had income of £1million or less in their last financial year.

This includes:

  • UK registered charities (registered with Charity Commission, Scottish Charity Regulator or Charity Commission for Northern Ireland, or as shown in the Charities Act 2010)
  • Organisations registered with Companies House or the Public Mutuals Register, as a charitable or not-for-profit entity, e.g Community Interest Companies, Companies Limited by Guarantee and others
  • Unregistered entities and social enterprises.


How much can you apply for?

Organisations in the UK with charitable activities can apply for up to £10,000 to support day to day activities in the current health emergency or your Covid-19 emergency response activities.

It is possible that not all grants will be made at the full amount. Please apply for an amount that will make a suitable difference to the size and activities of your organisation.

What can you apply for?

You can apply for unrestricted funding for core costs, staffing, volunteer costs, supplies and equipment, communications or other critical charitable areas.  You must be able to describe how an emergency grant will improve the situation for your organisation and community.

Please make only one application. Multiple applications will slow the process down and only one grant is possible for any organisation.

Please remember that this is intended as an emergency fund to enable your charitable activities to continue at the moment in whatever way is needed; it is not designed to replace other lost income in the longer term.

Domestic Abuse during COVID-19 – Guidance & Information from Sefton Council

Many residents will be following the national advice around household isolation and social distancing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This advice is in place to limit the spread of the virus and keep as many people as safe and well as possible.

We know that there are vulnerable people in our communities who will be more concerned than others about the prospect of staying at home for a number of reasons, including those who have been the victims of domestic abuse such as violence or coercive and controlling behaviour.

Sefton 4 Good launch fundraising appeal to support local initiatives in response to the Covid-19 outbreak

In response to the worldwide spread of COVID-19, Sefton 4 Good have launched a trusted online fundraising appeal to support a range of local voluntary, community and faith sector organisations who are working tirelessly to help vulnerable residents across the borough.

COVID-19: Changes to DBS ID checking guidelines

Due to current measures that have been put in place as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, we’re aware that organisations are having difficulty following the DBS ID checking guidance.

Currently, when validating ID documents, it is best practice to carry the examination out face-to-face with a live video link as an alternative method. Under the current guidance, the ID checker must be in physical possession of the original documents so they can be checked for indicators of fraud.

Coronavirus: Beware of the free school meals email scam

Sefton CVS and local partner agencies have been made aware of an email scam that states:
‘As schools will be closing, if you’re entitled to free school meals, please send your bank details and we’ll make sure you’re supported’.
Please do not respond to it, and delete immediately – and please help spread the word to those local families who may be targeted by this malicious scam.

MSE – The Coronavirus Charity Help Fund (Closing Wednesday 25th March 2020)

The Coronavirus Charity Help Fund has been set up by Martin Lewis to help those affected by the coronavirus. Small or local charities are able to apply to receive a grant of £5-20K for specific coronavirus poverty relief projects. As a guide – they consider small charities to be those with a turnover of £10 million or less. Though they will consider applications from subsidiaries of larger parent charities.

They’re especially interested in projects that directly help people affected by the effects of the virus, such as by giving access to food, toiletries, basic necessities, as well as community projects to help people in isolation.

They are looking for projects that can help people now, so will welcome applications for existing projects that could be scaled up with extra money or projects that are in the process of being set up.

Speed is of the essence so they encourage you to highlight your project’s objectives and outcomes concisely – consider using bullet points rather than lengthy answers. Data will only be used for the purpose of giving grants.

We know that many charities and community organisations across the UK are facing increasing challenges as a result of COVID-19 and we want to support those we fund as far as is possible at this difficult time.

Following the latest government guidance we have asked our staff to work from home and they are all equipped to do so. Our plan is to continue to deliver our services to applicants, grant holders and communities across the UK as normally as we can.

Residents asked to be on their guard for Covid-19 scammers

Sefton Council’s Trading Standards have received a number of reports of scams and profiteering on the coronavirus outbreak and are asking people to stay Safe and Savvy during this difficult time.

The reports range from inflated prices for hand sanitisers to emails claiming to be from organisations affiliated with the centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organisation (WHO), designed to obtain personal and banking details.

Earlier in the the month Action Fraud reported receiving 21 reports of fraud where Coronavirus was mentioned, with victim losses totaling over £800k, since February 2020.

Cllr Paulette Lappin, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regulatory, Compliance and Corporate Services, said: “This type of behavior is both shocking and disgraceful and has an impact on vulnerable members of our communities.

“Of the 21 reports, ten were made by victims that attempted to purchase protective face masks from fraudulent sellers.

“One victim reported losing over £15k when they purchased face masks that were never delivered.

“Reporting numbers are expected to rise as the virus continues to spread across the world and we are encouraging residents to engage with Citizens Advice.

“They have launched advice on coronavirus scams and a scam checker, to check if something might be a scam

The Chartered Trading Standards Institute’s chief executive Leon Livermore said: “It is abhorrent that unscrupulous individuals are using this difficult time as an opportunity to immiserate others further.

“Consumers should now be extra vigilant, and aware of these new scams that take many forms.

“The general rule of scams applies – if it seems too good to be true, then it probably is.

“CTSI is monitoring these developments and will update the public as we receive further intelligence.

“In the meantime, the public should follow the official government advice, and take all necessary precautions.”

Charity Commission Update: Filing charity annual returns during the coronavirus pandemic

Any charity that needs an extension to their annual return deadline can contact the Charity Commission to ask for one.

During the coronavirus pandemic the charity sector will face challenges of looking after its staff, volunteers and trustees who may fall ill, have to self-isolate, or have to look after loved ones. The sector also has a vital role to play in looking after its beneficiaries, many of whom will be amongst the most vulnerable during this public health emergency.

Steve Morgan Foundation pledges £1million A Week To Charities Hit By Coronavirus

Philanthropist and businessman Steve Morgan is today pledging £1m a week to charities to help some of the most vulnerable sectors of society cope with coronavirus – and he’s called on other people to follow suit.

Morgan is the founder of housebuilder Redrow and former owner of Wolverhampton Wanderers. He founded the Steve Morgan Foundation  in 2001, to support charities that help children and families, people with physical or learning disabilities, the elderly, or those that are socially disadvantaged in Merseyside, Cheshire and North Wales.

As a country, we all need to do what we can to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

That is why the government has given clear guidance on self-isolationhousehold isolation and social distancing.

And the most recent scientific advice on how to further limit the spread of COVID-19 is clear. If children can stay safely at home, they should, to limit the chance of the virus spreading.
