During Christmas and New Year, Sefton Council will provide restricted services as most staff are required to take unpaid leave as part of a series of cost-saving measures. Residents can still access a range of information and transactions via the council website – sefton.gov.uk.

The Sefton Housing Options Team are ready to help and are available Monday to Thursday (10am to 4pm) and Fridays (10am to 3pm) by calling 0151 934 3541.

Sefton’s registrars will continue to operate during the Christmas shutdown period. Registrars will be available at Southport Town Hall from 9.15am to 4pm on December 22, 27, 28 and December 29 by appointment only to register a death in the borough. A limited number of marriage notice appointments will also be available during this period. For more information or to book an appointment call 0151 934 2011.


GPs & Out-of-hours health care services

Your GP is available from 8am to 6.30pm weekdays with same day appointments available if necessary.

  • Commissioners are funding more appointments over the winter months when practices are at their busiest.
  • Ear, nose, throat, chest infections and vomiting & diarrhoea are common over winter.
  • Your GP is there to help if these illnesses are persisting and you are getting concerned.
  • When the surgery is closed, you can still see a local GP with the GP out-of-hours service, just contact your practice number and your call will be re-directed.

Pharmacist

  • Friendly, confidential, expert advice and treatment of everyday health issues
  • Local, in your community
  • Open early till late, no appointment needed

Self-Care

  • Stock up on medicines for coughs and colds at home to see you through the winter months
  • Local pharmacies and http://www.nhs.uk offer expert advice on health issues
  • Make sure you’re up to date with your repeat prescriptions from your GP before weekends and bank holidays

You can call 111 when you need medical help fast but it’s not a 999 emergency.
NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls are free from landlines and mobiles.

Southport Christmas Shelter at Alchemy Centre

If you are aware of someone who is sleeping on the streets and is in need of somewhere warm and dry to spend the night during Christmas period, please refer the to Southport Christmas Shelter at Alchemy on Mornington Road in Southport. People will be offered:

– Somewhere safe to spend the night
– Refreshments
– Housing/Bond Assessment
– Support to find suitable accommodation
– Referral to Sefton Foodbank
– Signposting to agencies appropriate to individual need

The shelter opens on Friday 22nd December, 9am – 2pm until Tuesday 26th December. 

Food is available, as well as toiletries, clothing and support for vulnerable adults. A hot meal is provided each day and overnight provisions for those that need them. The shelter is open to anyone who has a need to be there. For more information, please ring 01704 501256.

The Whitechapel Centre, Liverpool

We will be working hard this Christmas to offer the same support and advice during the festive season as we do throughout the year. On Christmas Day we serve breakfast for rough sleepers and Christmas Lunch for our service users who wish to join us. Click here for more info

Kingsway House Shelter, Hatton Garden (Liverpool)

Organisers have opened the doors to Kingsway House in Hatton Garden in Liverpool City Centre as a shelter for the homeless. This shelter will be open 24/7 until February 2017 and is run by local homeless charities and supported entirely by volunteers who are giving their time to help those in need.

The shelter offers shelter, safety, warmth and food to those who need it most, anyone is welcome and we have opened up a second floor so we can accommodate even more people.

Christmas Meals and Social Activities 

Salvation Army, Bootle (South Sefton)

Waterloo Community Kitchen (Crosby / Waterloo)
The Waterloo Community Kitchen, based at Waterloo Community Association on Great Georges Road will be open every Thursday through Christmas and New Year (21st, 28th Dec + 4th Jan) with a Christmas meal on Thurs 21st. This service will still be open thanks to the support of the centre’s volunteers.

They are doing their Christmas meal next Thursday,  but the following two weeks they will still be open thanks to the support of the  volunteers.

Christmas at Hawthorne Court (Litherland) Riverside staff (Jenna Brown & Sue Fairley) will be holding Christmas events at Hawthorne Court, Wilsons Lane, L21 7PA.

Christmas Eve 12.30pm – 4pm
We will be doing an afternoon quiz, helpline presentation, play your cards right and a Christmas movie to get us in the mood for Christmas day.

Christmas morning  10am – 11am
