Christmas Meals and Social Activities 

The Sovini Group – Christmas Day Dinner in Bootle (Tuesday 25th December) BOOTLE
The Sovini Group will be hosting Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day this year at a Bootle location.  The Christmas Dinner is open to anyone who may be feeling lonely or isolated, but booking is essential.  For more information about The Sovini Group’s Christmas Meal, please call 0151 530 5459. 

Christmas in Maghull (Wednesday 19th December) & Christmas Hampers MAGHULL
The Mayor of Maghull and Maghull Town Councillors are hosting a Christmas lunch for Maghull residents aged 67+ at Maghull Town Hall on Wednesday 19th December. For housebound residents in Maghull, there are also Christmas Hampers available. Siobhan or Kevin at the Town Hall on 0151 526 3705.

Waterloo Community Kitchen (Every Thursday) WATERLOO
The Waterloo Community Kitchen, based at Waterloo Community Association on Great Georges Road, Waterloo, will be open every Thursday through Christmas and New Year (13th / 20th / 27th Dec and 3rd Jan) with a Christmas meal on Thurs 20th December. This service will still be open thanks to the support of the centre’s volunteers.

Christmas Lunch at The Kings Church THORNTON 
Come and join us on Christmas day from 12:30pm at the King’s Church, 2 Drummond Road, Thornton, L23 9YP. We will be eating our Christmas dinner at 1pm, followed by a variety of fun and games. For catering purposes booking is essential, please let us know by 2nd December detailing any dietary requirements. Email us at or text or phone us at 07504132121. Christmas Lunch at the OpenWell Life Centre (Older People) SOUTHPORT
Traditional Christmas Meal and booking is required. This event is targetted at older people living in Southport and is served at the New Church Centre, Albert Road. £5 deposit secures booking (refundable on day). Catchment area is 7.5 mile radius of event location.

Sefton Council Services

During Christmas and New Year, Sefton Council will provide restricted services as most staff are required to take unpaid leave as part of a series of cost-saving measures. Residents can still access a range of information and transactions via the council website –

The Sefton Housing Options Team are ready to help and are available Monday to Thursday (10am to 4pm) and Fridays (10am to 3pm) by calling 0151 934 3541.

Sefton’s registrars will continue to operate during the 2018 Christmas shutdown period.Registrars will be available, via appointment only, to register a death in the borough at Southport Town Hall on:December 24 (2.15pm – 2pm) / December 27 (9.15am-4pm) / December 28 (9.15am-4pm) / December 31 (9.15am – 3pm). A limited number of marriage notice appointments will also be available during this period. Homeless Shelters & Support Services

Southport Christmas Shelter at Alchemy Centre
If you are aware of someone who is sleeping on the streets and is in need of somewhere warm and dry to spend the night during Christmas period, please refer the to Southport Christmas Shelter at Alchemy, 3 Mornington Road, Southport, PR9 OTB. People will be offered:

– Somewhere safe to spend the night
– Refreshments
– Housing/Bond Assessment
– Support to find suitable accommodation
– Referral to Sefton Foodbank
– Signposting to agencies appropriate to individual need

The shelter opens on Sunday 23rd December, 9am – 2pm until Thursday 27th December. 

Food is available, as well as toiletries, clothing and support for vulnerable adults. A hot meal is provided each day and overnight provisions for those that need them. The shelter is open to anyone who has a need to be there. For more information, please ring 01704 501256.

Should people wish to donate items such as clothing, toiletries which can be distributed amongst our guests, please bring them to Light for Life’s Housing Centre, 68 Eastbank Street, Southport PR81ES.

The Whitechapel Centre, Liverpool
