Sefton Performers Network provides peer support and promotes partnership working opportunities for creatives across Sefton.
Emerging from the preparations for Sefton becoming the Liverpool City Region borough of culture in 2020, there was continued interest in there being a space for organisations and individuals to explore the value of collaboration around arts, culture and heritage and forming an ongoing network to exchange ideas, deliver joint programmes and actions with the aims to:
- Encourage and promote arts, culture and heritage activity within the borough
- Develop social action, promote community cohesion, civic pride and mental and physical wellbeing through the mediums of performance, arts, drama and cultural activity
- Support and develop partnerships and have input into to local and regional strategies associated with arts, culture and heritage
- Provide a reference point for Sefton CVS’s Heritage Lottery Programme
Current members include: VCF sector organisations, community groups, not for profit social sector organisations and includes musicians, artists, art projects, theatre, drama and dance groups, community choirs, with membership growing all the time.
Sefton Performers Network provides peer support and promotes partnership working opportunities for creatives across Sefton.
The network is coordinated by Sefton CVS in partnership with three key groups; In Another Place, Collective Encounters, and MYA Space – who assist in planning the agenda, arranging key speakers and working with network members as to the areas and activities they wish to discuss and pursue collectively together.
Since its inception in November 2019, the group has been meeting bi-monthly.
Project Outcomes
- Opportunities for networking and linking groups together and promote arts and culture within the borough.
- Peer support to offer advice, collective insight and share expertise
- Information sharing on up-coming events in Sefton and assistance to promote them through the network and to wider organisations
- Regular updates on funding targeted specifically for creative groups
- Opportunities to work together and initiate joint projects
- Promote access and opportunities for Sefton residents to engage in the wide mediums of arts, culture and heritage in promoting education, wellbeing and community cohesion
Key Speakers and activities have included:

- Arts Council England and John Moores Foundation advising on their funding strategies and application processes.
- Sefton MBC – presenting on how groups can get involved with Sefton’s Borough of Culture and Cultural Strategy Plans.
- Africa Oye – sharing information on how groups from Sefton can link in with their festival and additional projects across the Liverpool City Region.
- Production of a film detailing how arts, cultural and heritage projects worked with local residents during COVID 19.
