Samaritans is here, day or night, for anyone who’s struggling to cope, who needs someone to listen without judgement or pressure. Samaritans is not only for the moment of crisis, we’re taking action to prevent the crisis. We give people ways to cope and the skills to be there for others. AA is a voluntary fellowship of men and women who are alcoholics and who help each other to achieve and maintain sobriety by sharing experiences and giving mutual support. Members are helped to achieve sobriety by staying away from drink, one day at a time. Group meetings help to maintain this and each member follows a programme of Twelve Steps to recovery. Self-honesty amongst members is fundamental and anonymity preserved.

Karen Cooke and Julie Cole look after a team of volunteers providing this much-needed support and befriending service to families with children, 0 – 11 years. Our volunteers are people from a wide variety of backgrounds and vary in age but all are either parents or have parenting experience. They are carefully selected for their friendliness and understanding, and are appropriately approved and all attend a course of preparation before being linked with families. Each volunteer is asked to visit a family once a week for a couple of hours. Home-Start’s volunteers work alongside families to give compassionate and confidential support, tailored to each family.
