Race Equality Hub Launch Event at Sefton Park Palm House
Gemma, our Community Development Inclusion Officer, recently had the privilege of attending the Race Equality Hub Launch Event at the stunning Palm House in Sefton Park. It was an inspiring gathering that left me feeling hopeful and energised.
Here are some highlights from the event:
1. Mayor Rotheram delivered a powerful and affirming speech. His commitment to shattering the glass ceiling that has held back our Black, Asian, and minority ethnic residents was truly inspiring. We’re on a journey toward becoming the fairest, most equal place in the country, and Mayor Rotheram’s words set the tone for this important endeavor¹.
2. The brand-new Race Equality Hub is a beacon of hope. With a budget of £2.3 million, it represents the largest-ever investment in tackling racial inequalities in our workforce. The hub will focus on training, employment support, and business assistance for people from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic backgrounds. Its mission is to create sustainable employment opportunities and level the playing field².
3. Several partner organisations were unveiled at the event, including Diageo, Hays Specialist Recruitment, Fairer Consulting, Lloyds Banking Group, and the Department for Work and Pensions. These partners have pledged to work collaboratively with the Hub to address racial inequality in the workplace and support Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic business development¹.
4. Beautiful Poetry: We were treated to heartfelt poetry that captured empathy and understanding from unique perspectives. It reminded us of the power of storytelling and the importance of amplifying diverse voices.
5. Our Collective Commitment: As we move forward, I’m excited about the opportunity to work together for our communities. The Race Equality Hub is not just a concept; it’s a catalyst for change. Let’s continue to champion social justice, equity, and inclusion. Together, we can create a brighter, more equitable future for all.
